As a busy doctor, I can’t afford downtime — so I do my best to keep my immune system strong and my environment healthy. Here are a few of my favorite habits that help me stay well all year long.
1. Snuff an Olbas Inhaler
I love these little inhalers and rely on them whenever I travel or spend time in crowds. The Olbas Inhaler delivers vapors of essential oils that you gently inhale through your nose. Some of these oils have shown antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties in laboratory studies.
I use mine on airplanes, at events, or just when I want to refocus — it even lifts my mood! (Remember: never apply undiluted essential oils directly on your skin, inside the nose, or in the mouth.)

2. Run a Humidifier
The moment the heater turns on for the season, out comes our humidifier! This year, we upgraded from a cool-mist plastic ultrasonic model to a stainless-steel steam version — much easier to clean.
Maintaining healthy humidity levels can make a big difference for your respiratory system, especially in the dry winter months. Learn more about why I’m such a fan here:

3. Drink Alterative Teas
“Alterative” herbs gently support your body’s natural processes and overall vitality. At the clinic, we carry Dr. Jill Stansbury’s 9-herb tea blend — one of my favorites. But there are plenty of nourishing tea combinations out there.
Tea is an easy (and delicious) way to stay hydrated — water with benefits!

4. Take a Multivitamin (with Vitamin D)
Even with a healthy diet, most of us don’t get the full range of nutrients our bodies need. A good multivitamin with vitamin D can help fill the gaps.
For more on why a multivitamin can still be important, read Dr. Amanda Grischow’s article:

Stay well, stay balanced, and take care of your body — it’s your best protection during busy seasons!
