Integrative Cancer Care
Integrative Cancer Care services are offered by Dr. Brooke Waldersen. Care is designed to support individuals at any point in their journey with cancer as well as those focused on prevention and long-term health. Care is designed to complement conventional oncology treatment, not replace it. Conventional cancer therapies are not provided in this setting.
Why Choose Integrative Oncology?
A cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, with many decisions and often limited time to fully understand all available options. Integrative oncology provides an added layer of support by focusing on the whole person—not just the disease. This approach helps patients better navigate their care, reduce treatment-related side effects, and feel more confident in their decisions.
By combining evidence-informed natural therapies with conventional medical care, integrative oncology aims to improve quality of life, support treatment tolerance, and promote long-term health, while ensuring safety and coordination with your oncology team.
What Cancers Do We Treat?
Dr. Waldersen provides supportive care for individuals with all types and stages of cancer. This includes, but is not limited to, breast, colorectal, prostate, hematologic, gynecologic, head and neck, and brain cancers.
Care is individualized based on diagnosis, treatment plan, and patient goals. Dr. Waldersen works with patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy, or active surveillance, as well as those who have completed treatment.
Support during active treatment is focused on reducing side effects and maintaining overall health. This may include addressing symptoms such as neuropathy, hot flashes, fatigue, nausea, digestive concerns, and cognitive changes (“brain fog”), while also providing nutrition and lifestyle guidance to help patients stay strong throughout treatment.
We also work with patients who are undergoing active surveillance and have not initiated conventional treatment, such as certain prostate cancers, early-stage chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), or other low-risk or indolent (slow-progressing) conditions—with a focus on supporting overall health and addressing modifiable risk factors.
For individuals on long-term hormone suppressing therapies, such as breast cancer patients taking tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors (anastrozole, letrozole, exemestane), or prostate cancer patients on androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), care is directed toward minimizing side effects and supporting long-term health.
All recommendations are made with careful consideration of safety and are designed to avoid interactions with medications or treatments prescribed by your oncology team.
High-Risk & Prevention Care
Integrative care is also available for individuals who are at increased risk for cancer or who are interested in better understanding and reducing their risk.
Higher-risk individuals may include those with a strong family history of cancer, known genetic predispositions (such as BRCA or other hereditary mutations), prior cancer diagnoses, or certain lifestyle and metabolic risk factors. This may also include individuals with occupational or environmental exposures (such as chemicals, toxins, or radiation) that may increase cancer risk, as well as those who are unsure of their risk and are seeking a more in-depth evaluation.
Care focuses on identifying modifiable risk factors and creating a personalized plan using evidence-informed strategies, including laboratory studies, nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation when appropriate, to support long-term health and risk reduction.
Remission & Survivorship Care
For patients in remission, care is focused on recovery, long-term health, and prevention of recurrence. This includes addressing lingering side effects from treatment, rebuilding strength and resilience, and developing a personalized plan that may incorporate lab evaluation, nutrition, and evidence-informed supplementation. The goal is to support ongoing health while reducing risk of recurrence and improving overall quality of life.
All care is grounded in current research and tailored to each individual’s history, treatment course, and goals.
IV therapies are not offered in-office; however, recommendations and referrals can be provided when appropriate.
